DJ in da house

When I spoke to my Dad on the phone last week before he ventured on his slog of a long journey to come and see me in Hiroshima, he asked me if I wanted him to bring anything. Apart from ibuprophen, marmite and The Daily Mail(?!), I also asked if he had any photos of me when I was little. Not sure why I asked, just wanted to remember what happened in my life before Japan. As being here kind of makes you forget about life in the old days (not that I'm very old). So I stumbled across this picture. I had so forgotten about Mr Turtle sitting next me - DJ Kate and MC Turtle - I wonder what happened to him? Probably sold him for 5p at a car boot sale. Sorry Mr Turtle, maybe we'll meet again on friends reunited?
This is a pointless blog - just felt I needed to write something, anything! I'm going to bed.

Ninja lessons

A couple of weeks ago I went on a Kompa here in Hiroshima. The equivalent of speed dating but a lot more civilized and you don't necessarily have to move seats after a minute and a half. So there were 6 guys and 6 girls, I can say now I wasn't tempted by any of the guys, they were just too immaculate. I could tell they would definitely spend more than the average amount of time in the bathroom. Which made me think I should take more pride in my appearance. So last week I cut myself a fringe, which I've now discovered to be a little lopsided, I'm thinking I should just leave my appearance to be sorted out by the professionals and pay the cost of going to the hairdressers!
Anyway back to this Kompa thing. When being introduced to one another I was presented as 'This is Kate. She's a vegetarian'. First off I wasn't bothered by this, but when more people came to join us the introduction of being a vegetarian started to irritate me (I don't mean that nastily to those I was eating with). I kind of thought, is this all there is to me? 'Kate the vegetarian!', it's pretty dull. Considering I became vegetarian when I was 9 years old and can't really remember why, I sort of forgot I was one. Before leaving for Japan I remember having a conversation with my brother of how I would like to become some pro in a martial art. He said it would be really cool if I was a ninja, as you don't come across that many ninjas - I wonder why?! So here's a picture of me taken earlier in my ninja class. "This is Kate. She's a ninja" is my new selling piece.

I'm sleepy

Asleep on Tokyo Tube - attractive! Well after 7 months of living in Japan I've finally managed to set up a blog! This is probably because when I'm not working I'm sleeping (or drinking. So I may as well be asleep as I've often been told I'm wondering around with my eyes closed!). Even the opportunities of travelling around Japan I find myself conking out. Hence evidence from photo - Kal & me on Tokyo tube. We were only on the thing for 2 stops.
Well, I'm not sure where all this tiredness comes from but I've adapted the Japanese response of when being asked how I am, I reply a lot of the time with 'I'm sleepy'. Often wondering why I never manage to get things done (i.e. this blog) is because I'm more than likely asleep. Must be something in the air.
Right then, November's resolution (in preparation for the New Year ones): to stay awake more.
